AMA president says Trump vaccine order puts children’s health at risk

The president of the American Medical Association said Monday that President Trump’s executive order on childhood immunizations puts “children’s health at risk,” joining a chorus of medical experts who have criticized the move, the association said.

“Vaccines are among the most thoroughly studied, effective tools we have to protect children from serious vaccine-preventable diseases,” Dr. Willie Underwood III said, the AMA said.

Underwood’s comments echoed broader criticism from medical and public health professionals who have expressed concern about the executive order’s recommendations on childhood immunizations, the AMA said.

The association did not provide additional details in its statement beyond Underwood’s remarks.
