The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a group representing American automakers, sent a letter Thursday to congressional leaders calling for a “permanent ban” on Chinese-made cars, the group said.
John Bozzella, CEO and president of the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, wrote in the letter that China’s manufacturing industry is “rooted in a well-documented pattern of unfair trade, subsidies, intellectual property theft and surveillance,” the group said.
The letter framed the requested ban as a response to those practices, the Alliance said. It did not provide additional details in the statement announcing the letter.
The Alliance for Automotive Innovation identified itself as representing U.S. automakers in its announcement about the letter, the group said.
