Bronze Star veteran Michael Bouchard wins GOP nod in Michigan’s 10th District

Michael Bouchard, a Bronze Star-winning military veteran, secured the Republican nomination Tuesday in Michigan’s 10th Congressional District. His victory follows an endorsement from former President Donald Trump, who praised Bouchard’s service and fighting spirit on social media.

Incumbent Rep. John James, a Republican, announced he would not seek re-election, opting instead to run for Michigan governor. James previously won his seat with narrow margins in 2022 and 2024 but cited a desire to focus on the state’s future. He highlighted his background in manufacturing and automotive industries, which drew him to politics.

Bouchard, a newcomer to elected office, highlighted his military service with the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, including deployments to Iraq and the U.S.-Mexico border. He received a Bronze Star for his work with a joint task force against ISIS. Bouchard has emphasized his support for President Trump’s policies, including border security and manufacturing initiatives.

In campaign messaging, Bouchard criticized current border policies under President Joe Biden, citing issues like human trafficking and drug smuggling. He also advocates for strengthening American manufacturing, completing the southern border wall, and increasing parental involvement in education.

Trump’s endorsement, posted on Truth Social, called Bouchard a “brave U.S. Army veteran” and praised his service. Bouchard has also received backing from prominent GOP leaders, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and GOP Conference Chair Lisa McClain.

With the primary behind him, Bouchard is set to face Democratic candidate Carl Marlinga in the Nov. 3 general election, as Republicans seek to maintain control of the House majority.
