A federal judicial panel on Thursday allowed Tennessee to use a new congressional map that divides a majority-Black district in Memphis, the three-judge panel said.
The panel declined to issue a preliminary injunction sought by opponents, clearing the way for the map’s use in the state’s primary elections in August, the judges said.
Opponents had sought to block the plan before the primary, the panel said. The decision rejects that effort for now.
The panel’s action leaves the new map in place for the upcoming primary, according to the judges’ ruling.
