Two U.S. district judges rejected cases defending Temporary Protected Status for migrants from Myanmar and South Sudan, according to court rulings.
The Department of Homeland Security issued two alerts on its website saying that, effective Aug. 7, the TPS designation for both countries had been halted.
The alerts did not outline next steps for individuals who had been covered by the designations. Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, is a designation that has allowed nationals of certain countries to remain in the United States temporarily.
The court rulings and the DHS notices leave some migrants who had relied on TPS at risk of deportation.
