Federal judge backs Missouri’s new Republican-leaning House map after Supreme Court rebuffs case

A federal judge ruled that Missouri should use a new congressional map that favors Republicans for now, the judge said.

The decision came hours after the U.S. Supreme Court left in place a ruling from the state’s highest court that directed Missouri to use an older map.

The two actions produced conflicting directives about which map the state should follow, according to the court orders.

Both rulings were issued by courts involved in the dispute over Missouri’s congressional boundaries, and they were released hours apart.
