Hawaii Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke was indicted Friday on bribery charges, ending a months-long investigation into a campaign finance scandal, according to authorities.
A Hawaii grand jury returned a 12-count indictment against Luke, who was a state lawmaker at the time of the alleged offenses. She is accused of accepting campaign contributions in 2022 in exchange for securing funding for COVID-19 testing sites.
The charges stem from an investigation into campaign finance practices during Luke’s tenure as a lawmaker. Details of the case have not been publicly disclosed beyond the indictment.
Luke has not issued a statement regarding the charges. She continues to serve as Hawaii’s lieutenant governor, a position she has held since 2022.
