Independent Bill Hill advances in Alaska at-large House race

Decision Desk HQ projected that independent Bill Hill advanced to the general election in Alaska’s contest for the at-large U.S. House seat, joining incumbent Republican Rep. Nick Begich III, the outlet said.

Hill, a Bristol Bay fisherman, finished among the top vote-getters in the state’s open primary, Decision Desk HQ reported.

Under Alaska’s open primary system, state election rules say the top four vote-getters advance from the primary, regardless of party, to a ranked-choice general election.

Begich, the incumbent Republican representative, will face Hill and other primary qualifiers in the ranked-choice general election, Decision Desk HQ projected.
