Justice Department calls Iranian missile threat an ‘assassination attempt’ in Supreme Court appeal

The Justice Department described an Iranian missile threat that prompted President Trump to secretly switch planes last month as an “assassination attempt,” U.S. Solicitor General John Sauer said in an emergency appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court Friday.

Sauer made the characterization in a court filing that asks the high court to overturn a lower court’s block related to the matter, according to the filing.

The filing attributed the plane change and the description of the threat to the incident, but did not provide further detail in the portion cited by the appeal, the Justice Department said in the document.
