Cameras captured at least two masked men knocking on doors in the 1200 block of Canvasback Drive in the Mallard Pointe neighborhood of New Castle, and images show one man carrying what appears to be a rifle, New Castle County Police Department said.
Police said officers were called to the block around 10:50 p.m. on Oct. 9, 2026, after residents reported a suspicious person. The department released images showing one man in a tactical-style vest holding what appears to be a rifle and another approaching a front door wearing a black vest and mask.
Authorities said the man allegedly knocked on doors before running away. Four men were also seen heading eastbound on Mallard Road — two on bicycles and two on foot. Officers and a K-9 unit searched the neighborhood and nearby properties but were unable to locate the individuals.
Police said they have not confirmed whether the weapons were real firearms and that they believe the weapons may have been airsoft-style guns. Anyone with information or home security footage from the area is urged to call 911 or the New Castle County Police Department’s non-emergency number at 302-573-2800.
