New York Mets star Juan Soto was removed in the sixth inning of Friday night’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a lingering calf injury, the team said.
Soto had drawn two walks before leaving the game, according to official game statistics. The Mets said the calf problem first surfaced July 16 and that Soto received time off earlier this week to address it.
Interim manager Andy Green said the injury was improving. “It’s improving for him,” Green said, per MLB.com. “Hopefully after today, we don’t have to talk about it anymore,” MLB.com reported.
The Mets noted that actress Emma Stone, who was filming at the ballpark, spoke with Soto before the game. The Mets also said Soto was their only All-Star this season. MLB statistics show Soto is batting .283 with 83 hits and 21 home runs in 84 games. He is in the second year of a 15-year, $765 million contract signed in December 2024, the team said.
