Missing New York grandmother found dead near Las Vegas airport
A New York woman who vanished in Las Vegas earlier this month was found dead near Harry Reid International Airport, according to police and her family.
Alisa Goods, 63, was reported missing Aug. 10 after she was last seen leaving a friend’s apartment near Maryland Parkway and Tropicana Avenue, her family told local outlets. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded early Thursday after a caller reported a deceased woman in a drainage ditch near Wayne Newton Boulevard and the airport’s Terminal 1 parking garage.
Surveillance footage reviewed by authorities reportedly showed Goods falling down an embankment, getting back up, then collapsing on Aug. 8, the day she disappeared. Additional video showed a woman believed to be Goods near the airport that afternoon.
Goods had been staying with her friend Roger John, who told police she left his apartment around 12:45 p.m. Aug. 8 to buy iron pills at a nearby CVS but did not return. Her family said they began receiving unusual text messages from her phone on Aug. 12, asking for gas money and Bitcoin, despite her not owning a car in Las Vegas.
Her niece, Alana Calloway, expressed grief over the discovery and said her family is trying to learn the cause of her death. Authorities have not released details about the circumstances of her death or who may have sent the texts, which raised concerns that Goods might have been kidnapped.
