Miss. opens new State Route 2 alignment in Tippah County
The Mississippi Department of Transportation said a new alignment of State Route 2 in Tippah County is complete and opened to traffic Sept. 8.
MDOT said the 1.5-mile section is a two-lane highway that includes two new bridges. The agency said the roadway now carries local traffic to State Route 368 and Tippah County Road 700.
MDOT said the SR 2 alignment is part of a larger project to create a bypass from Blue Mountain to Ripley on State Route 15 and will eventually connect the existing SR 15 at Blue Mountain to the new SR 15 bypass.
MDOT District 1 Engineer Matt Dunn said, “Thanks to the investment of the Mississippi Legislature, this connection is the first step toward a much-needed four-lane bypass that will carry increased traffic, reduce congestion, and drive economic growth across the region.”
