Gavin Thor Lundgren, 26, dove headfirst from a bridge into Table Rock Lake while fleeing deputies early July 18, according to video released by the Stone County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said the footage shows Lundgren sprinting across a two-lane bridge before launching himself into the water. “This was definitely a first and luckily he survived the fall,” the office said. “He resisted arrest and deputies suffered minor injuries taking him into custody.”
Authorities arrested Lundgren and charged him with three counts of third-degree assault on a special victim, resisting arrest for a felony, resisting arrest by fleeing and careless driving, the sheriff’s office said. He is being held in the Stone County Jail without bond.
According to a probable cause statement and reports from KOLR, deputies attempted to stop Lundgren around 1:50 a.m. after spotting his 2004 Chevrolet Malibu traveling nearly 75 mph in a 45-mph zone. Deputies said he led them on a pursuit, abandoned his still-moving car and jumped from the bridge into the lake.
Investigators said three deputies were injured while taking Lundgren into custody and that Lundgren headbutted two deputies during the struggle. Authorities said deputies suffered facial bruising, cuts to their hands, elbows and forearms, and abrasions.
