Observers Say Jordan Travis Fueled Florida State Success, Sparking Debate

Some observers and analysts say quarterback Jordan Travis was the driving force behind Florida State’s recent success and that his departure has coincided with the program’s decline, according to those observers and team records.

Florida State’s 17-point win over New Mexico State on Saturday night drew fresh criticism of coach Mike Norvell. Team records show Norvell is 8-17 since the start of 2024, and the Seminoles did not cover a 31.5-point spread in that game, according to betting lines.

Travis was a two-time All-ACC selection and the 2023 ACC Player of the Year, and he played a leading role during a 23-4 stretch for Florida State in 2022-23 that included an ACC championship and back-to-back top-10 finishes, according to school records. Observers point to game logs showing the Seminoles averaged about 38.8 points per game before Travis’ season-ending injury in 2023 and about 14.3 points per game afterward.
