Padres eliminate Cubs with 8-0 and 4-1 wins in San Diego

The San Diego Padres eliminated the Chicago Cubs from the NL Wild Card series in San Diego, beating Chicago 8-0 in Game 1 and 4-1 in Game 2 to end the Cubs’ postseason, the source reported.

Fox News’ Outkick wrote on Oct. 1, 2026, that the Cubs managed just three hits in the 8-0 Game 1 and five hits in the 4-1 Game 2, scoring one run across the two games after leading MLB in total runs during the regular season by 18.

Outkick reported that outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong went 0-for-7 with four strikeouts across the two games and that Alex Bregman went 0-for-8 with four strikeouts. The story said both hitters being blanked left the Cubs with little chance to advance in a three-game series.

The report noted Chicago entered the postseason dealing with injuries, listing three starting pitchers and seven relievers on the injured list, and said the club had lost four of its final six regular-season games before the Wild Card series in San Diego.
