Paul Finebaum criticizes Lane Kiffin over Ole Miss remarks
ESPN’s Paul Finebaum criticized Lane Kiffin for comments about Ole Miss that have stirred controversy in college football. Kiffin, the LSU coach and former Ole Miss coach, made remarks suggesting concerns over racial diversity at Ole Miss could hurt recruiting, which drew widespread criticism.
In an episode of “The Paul Finebaum Show,” the host said Kiffin’s comments appeared to be driven by bitterness. Finebaum stated that Kiffin was trying to “wipe Ole Miss off the face of the earth” because he was upset about not coaching in the College Football Playoff after leaving Ole Miss for LSU.
Finebaum also referenced a recent interview with Kiffin, where the coach expressed regret about the timing of his departure and his belief that Ole Miss could have won a national championship if he had stayed. The coach acknowledged that his move to LSU was better in the long run but still wished things had worked out differently.
Additionally, Finebaum addressed comments from Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, who suggested Ole Miss has an academic advantage. Finebaum dismissed Sarkisian’s complaints, noting that Texas recruits are often there for NIL opportunities rather than academics.
The criticism highlights ongoing tensions within SEC coaching ranks and the contentious nature of college football recruiting. Kiffin has yet to publicly respond to Finebaum’s remarks.
