Texas rises to No. 1 in AP Top 25; Ohio State falls to No. 6, Oregon tumbles to No. 21
Texas moved to No. 1 in The Associated Press Top 25 poll, knocking Ohio State out of the top five and sending Oregon down to No. 21, WXXV News 25 reported Sept. 14, 2026.
WXXV News 25 reported the Longhorns rallied from 20 points down in the fourth quarter to beat Ohio State 24-23. According to Sportradar, that comeback was the largest fourth-quarter rally ever for a win against an AP No. 1 team. Texas received 56 first-place votes and is ranked No. 1 in the regular season for the first time since Oct. 13, 2024.
The Buckeyes dropped to No. 6 in the poll. WXXV News 25 noted Ohio State had been No. 1 in 17 of the previous 20 polls since winning the 2024 national championship and is 1-3 in its last four games, with each loss to a top-10 team.
Oregon fell 15 spots to No. 21 after a 39-31 road loss to Oklahoma State, its lowest ranking in four years, WXXV News 25 reported. Michigan re-entered the Top 25 at No. 19 after a 17-10 win over No. 11 Oklahoma; Oklahoma dropped 13 spots to No. 24.
The poll’s top 10, as reported by WXXV News 25, is: No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 4 Indiana, No. 5 Miami, No. 6 Ohio State, No. 7 LSU, No. 8 Mississippi, No. 9 Texas A&M and No. 10 Alabama.
Conference representation in the poll, per WXXV News 25: the Southeastern Conference has nine ranked teams (including the top two and six of the top 10), the Big Ten has seven, the ACC four and the Big 12 four. Independent Notre Dame is ranked at No. 3.
