Pete Alonso homers in Bronx return, mocks New York traffic

Pete Alonso homered in the second inning Friday as the Baltimore Orioles visited the New York Yankees, and the former Met said snarled city traffic confirmed he was back in New York.

“We flew into Newark, and then, I’m like, ‘We’re definitely back because we hit an insufferable wall of traffic,'” Alonso told SNY. SNY’s Michelle Margaux asked if that meant Baltimore didn’t have traffic. “No, they do, just not an insufferable wall of traffic,” Alonso said.

Alonso hit a long home run off Yankees right-hander Will Warren in the top of the second inning, sending the ball into the second deck in right field, the game broadcast showed. The shot was Alonso’s fifth of the season, according to the broadcast.

Alonso began his major league career with the New York Mets in 2019. The Orioles are scheduled to visit Queens next for a three-game series against Alonso’s former team, the Mets, the team announced.
