Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin helped off ice, did not return to game vs. Capitals, Fox News reports
Igor Shesterkin, the New York Rangers’ starting goaltender, was helped off the ice and did not return to the team’s game against the Washington Capitals, Fox News reported Oct. 10, 2026.
Fox News said Shesterkin appeared to jam his right leg against the post during a second-period net-mouth scramble while the score was tied 1-1 and was unable to put weight on the leg.
The report noted Shesterkin entered the night 3-1 with a .926 save percentage and a 1.75 goals-against average, and identified him as the 2021-22 Vezina Trophy winner; Fox News also noted he scored a goal on Oct. 1.
Dylan Garand entered the game in relief; Fox News said Garand had four prior NHL games on his resume. The article added that Boone Jenner scored late in the second period, and that goal proved to be the game-winner.
Fox News also reported that the incident sparked social-media discussion linking the injury to broader talk of a citywide “curse” following the Knicks’ title, mentioning prior high-profile injuries among New York players.
