Kevin Davis was found dying at the foot of the stairs in his Indiana home, and police initially treated his condition as an accident, authorities said.
Officers did not search the room where a pit bull mix was secured, police said. Authorities did not say whether a guard dog’s growl or other factors influenced the decision not to search that room.
Police have not released additional details about the circumstances of Davis’ death or about any ongoing investigation, the department said.
