Rent board approves Mamdani’s two-year freeze for 1 million apartments
The New York City Rent Guidelines Board voted 7-1 Thursday to approve Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s two-year rent freeze for about 1 million rent-stabilized apartments, the board said.
The board said the freeze applies to rent-stabilized units in buildings constructed before 1974 and to buildings receiving certain tax breaks.
The decision came from the independent Rent Guidelines Board, which is made up of mayoral appointees, the board said.
The rent freeze is scheduled to take effect starting in October, the board said.
