Roman Reigns retains World Heavyweight title at SummerSlam

Roman Reigns retained the World Heavyweight Championship by pinning Seth Rollins in the main event of WWE’s SummerSlam at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Sunday, Fox News Digital reported.

The two men, who began their WWE careers as members of The Shield, entered the match as longtime rivals and faced each other for what Fox News Digital called a possible final meeting of their careers.

The bout opened with back-and-forth action that turned into an all-out brawl in the stands. Reigns decked Rollins by powerbombing him through an announce table, and Rollins returned the favor later in the match. Both men hit multiple high-impact moves, including a pedigree, a superplex and a Kimura lock, with several near-falls keeping the match competitive, Fox News Digital reported.

The match continued after the referee was knocked down. Reigns hit a Paradigm Shift and appeared to be setting up a spear when Rollins used a steel chair that he had taken to the ring. After a tense exchange, the men agreed to finish the match in the center of the ring without the weapon. Reigns then hit a final spear and pinned Rollins to retain the title. The two exchanged a brief Shield-era gesture after the match while Rollins left his Shield mask in the ring, Fox News Digital reported.
