Suspects lead authorities on 100 mph chase in Texas; one allegedly carjacks civilian

Two suspected human smugglers led authorities on a high-speed chase that reached more than 100 mph along Interstate 10 in Fabens, Texas, before bailing from their vehicle and, one allegedly, carjacking a civilian at gunpoint, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.

Helicopter video from CBP’s Air and Marine Operations shows the pursuit unfolding and the vehicle slowing after its front right tire may have been damaged, an official is heard saying over radio communications in the footage. The vehicle was later disabled and both occupants fled on foot, CBP said.

One suspect was quickly apprehended by a member of the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the other was taken into custody after the alleged carjacking, authorities said. Officials have not released information about how many people were being smuggled or their nationalities, CBP said.

The incident occurred near a Speedway gas station at about 9:16 a.m., KFOX14 reported. The suspects are expected to face human smuggling and evading arrest or detention charges, the station reported.

“Outstanding coordination by Border Patrol, AMO, HSI and Texas DPS,” CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott wrote on X alongside the pursuit video. Fox News Digital said it reached out to CBP for additional information.
