Tennessee says Neyland crowd hit 130.3 dBA, calls it highest verified crowd noise in college football
Tennessee says Neyland Stadium registered a 130.3-decibel (dBA) peak during a third-quarter sequence in its game against Alabama, a noise event the school called the highest scientifically verified crowd noise in college football, Fox News’ OutKick reported Oct. 21, 2026.
OutKick quoted an official Tennessee release saying the loudness occurred on field level during a sequence when defensive end Tyree Weathersby recorded a sack on second down with 3:56 remaining in the third quarter while the Vols led 19-10. The release said the seven-second noise event followed a delay-of-game penalty that made it third-and-16, and Alabama was called for a false start one play later.
OutKick noted some fans have disputed the claim, pointing to previous high readings such as an LSU-Alabama game in 2022 (133 dBA) and a Nebraska game in 1992 (133.6 dBA). The OutKick column also cited earpeace.com in noting the highest decibel level on record for any sporting event was a Monday Night Football game at Arrowhead Stadium in 2014.
OutKick’s Nightcaps column also reported other items from the weekend: former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick posted support for former President Donald Trump, saying, “I wish you could all have just 5 minutes with @potus!” and Tiffani Amber Thiessen shared a sneak peek of a Halloween costume.
All claims in this article are attributed to Fox News’ OutKick column and the Tennessee release cited there; Tippah News has not independently confirmed the measurements or events described.
