Trump calls reports of $300 billion U.S. aid to Iran ‘fake news’

President Donald Trump on Monday disputed reports that the United States would provide $300 billion in reconstruction funding to Iran as part of a peace agreement and called the reports “fake news,” the president said.

“Iran has agreed to never have a Nuclear Weapon! Also, the story that the U.S. is paying Iran 300 million Dollars is…” Trump wrote, according to his statement released Monday.

Trump sought to cast doubt on coverage that tied large-scale reconstruction funds to a deal in which Iran would uphold its obligations, his statement said.

The president did not provide additional details about the alleged funding in the statement.
