The New York Yankees announced Thursday that outfielder Aaron Judge has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right first rib. The injury is expected to keep him out indefinitely, with a re-examination scheduled in four to six weeks.
The Yankees revealed the diagnosis after Judge missed Tuesday’s game and underwent additional imaging. Manager Aaron Boone said the team was seeking clarity on the injury before determining a course of action.
Despite the setback, the team remains optimistic that Judge will return this season. In a statement, the Yankees said Judge is expected to come back at some point, though his absence could extend into the postseason.
Judge’s injury comes at a pivotal time for the Yankees, who are competing in a weak American League and still hold a postseason spot. However, their chances of securing a first-round bye could be impacted if they fall behind in the AL East standings, where the Tampa Bay Rays currently lead.
Even while injured, Judge remains one of baseball’s most potent hitters. His full return would significantly boost the Yankees’ World Series prospects, but if he does not heal properly, the season could end prematurely for the star outfielder.
