A CBS News California consumer investigation found food delivery drivers using rented or stolen app accounts to bypass background checks, a practice the report said could put customers at risk.
The investigation said drivers are able to log in with accounts that are not theirs to avoid company screening and continue making deliveries, according to CBS News California.
CBS News California said the practice exposes a loophole in app-based delivery systems that the report described as allowing individuals to work without undergoing the intended vetting.
The report said the loophole could increase the potential for fraud or other risks to customers who receive deliveries from accounts that do not match the person at their door.
