Schools in 38 Mississippi counties are reporting COVID-19 cases, according to State Health Officer, Dr. Thomas Dobbs.

During a news conference on Friday, Dr. Dobbs said 109 teachers and 69 students have tested positive for the virus.

He also included that 254 teachers and staff are in quarantine, along with 489 students. Dr. Dobbs said the state has unfortunately seen deaths in younger people this week.

One teen has died from the virus and had no known underlying medical conditions. A pregnant woman in her early 20s also died from the virus this week.

This represents nearly half of the districts in the state.
