Two Ripley students competed over the weekend in New Orleans, Louisiana in the USA Amateur Boxing Match. Izac Cortez, who is 11 and a student at Ripley Middle School, is in youth bantam divison and recently won first place in his last boxing match.
Israel David, 15 year old, who is a student at Ripley High School, is in junior divison and has recently claimed a 2nd place medal in his last boxing match.
The boys train in Tupelo, under trainers Zeus Flores and Tavo Martinez, and their corner is Joe Nash out of Florida. David & Cortez undergo rigorous training when they have a fight coming up, clocking three trainings per week in preparation.
Their next match will be on September 14th at the Gulf Coast Classic Amateur Boxing Showcase, which is held in Gulfport, Mississippi.
