Tippah County sports roundup, Oct. 10, 2026: Walnut, Ripley fall in Friday football
Walnut’s late chance to tie Biggersville slipped away in a 16–6 home loss Friday, Oct. 9, while Ripley fell 32–15 at New Albany in another non-district football game.
Walnut’s rally falls short
Sawyer Cardwell scored a touchdown to bring Walnut within 8–6 with 2:40 remaining, but the Wildcats could not convert the two-point attempt. Biggersville finished with a 10-point victory, leaving Walnut 3–4 overall.
Ripley scores late
The Tigers trailed 18–0 after three quarters before scoring all 15 of their points in the fourth. Kyran McDonald found Cohen Wright for a 20-yard touchdown, then ran in the two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 18–8. New Albany added 14 points in the final period.
Ripley is 1–6 after its sixth consecutive loss and remains 0–1 in district play. Its next three games, at Byhalia, Rosa Fort and Senatobia, are district contests.
District play ahead
Walnut opens its district schedule at home against Hamilton on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. Central. Both teams enter 3–4, and Walnut will recognize its seniors.
