Walnut secured its fourth consecutive North State volleyball finals berth Thursday, Oct. 8, sweeping Myrtle 25–12, 25–8, 25–20 at home. The Lady Wildcats are Tippah County’s last team remaining in the volleyball playoffs, according to TippahSports.com’s report.
Walnut advances; Ripley and Pine Grove eliminated
Walnut improved to 31–4 with its 12th straight victory and third consecutive postseason sweep. The defending state champions next face unbeaten East Union (36–0) on Monday, Oct. 12.
New Albany swept Ripley 25–10, 25–22, 25–18 in the Class 4A third round, ending the Lady Tigers’ season at 17–16. Pine Grove lost 25–20, 25–18, 25–22 at Ingomar in Class 1A and finished 23–12.
Falkner wins on road; two football games tonight
Falkner defeated Riverside 28–22 in Avon on Thursday for its first road win of the season, evening its record at 3–3. The Eagles open division play at Ashland on Oct. 16, TippahSports.com reported.
Tonight, Ripley travels to New Albany and Walnut hosts Biggersville, with both kickoffs scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, according to TippahSports.com’s daily schedule.
BMCU soccer teams fall to Faulkner
Blue Mountain Christian’s women lost 3–0 to Faulkner University on Thursday afternoon at the BMCU Sportsplex in Southern States Athletic Conference play, according to the women’s soccer report.
