BMCU Athletes Sweep Three SSAC Weekly Honors
Blue Mountain Christian University athletes picked up three Southern States Athletic Conference weekly awards on Monday, Oct. 20. Golfers Cobey Riddle and Ansley Pratt were each named SSAC Golfer of the Week after winning individual titles, and freshman Brenyn Wilbanks was named SSAC Setter of the Week. All three BMCU SSAC weekly honors were announced by the university’s athletics department.
The awards cap a strong week for the Toppers in Blue Mountain. Both golf teams won tournaments, and the volleyball team went unbeaten in conference play.
Riddle Leads No. 3 BMCU Men to Another Title
Riddle was named SSAC Men’s Golfer of the Week after winning medalist honors at the Bojangles Tennessee Wesleyan Invite. According to BMCU Athletics, he posted a three-round total of 211, 4 under par, and his play helped the No. 3-ranked Toppers win the team title.
Riddle opened the event with two rounds in the 60s, which put him in front going into the final day. He closed with a 75 to hold on for the individual win.
Coach Barefield said in the university’s release that Riddle “has been a tremendous competitor for us” and that his work on his game paid off. The coach added that what made the week special was that Riddle’s performance helped the team bring home another championship.
Pratt Wins CBC Fall Invite in First BMCU Season
On the women’s side, graduate student Ansley Pratt was named SSAC Women’s Golfer of the Week after taking the individual championship at the CBC Fall Invite. She shot rounds of 78 and 76 for a two-round total of 154 and helped the Toppers win the team title.
Pratt is in her first season at Blue Mountain Christian after transferring in as a graduate student. BMCU Athletics said she has brought experience and consistency to the lineup and made an immediate impact on the program.
Wilbanks Named SSAC Setter of the Week
Freshman setter Brenyn Wilbanks, a Corinth native, earned the conference’s Setter of the Week award after helping the Volley Toppers win both of their SSAC matches last week.
- Opponents: wins over Brewton-Parker Christian University and Wesleyan College
- Stats: 34 assists across six sets, an average of 5.67 assists per set
- Role: runs the offense in BMCU’s 6-2 rotation
The award is an early highlight in Wilbanks’ college career and adds another individual conference honor for the volleyball program as it continues its SSAC schedule.
What’s Next for the Toppers
The golf teams’ fall seasons are wrapping up, and both squads will look to carry their momentum into the spring. The volleyball team continues conference play this fall.
