North Tippah schools closing due to large amount of students, teachers out with flu

North And south tippah school district announced on Thursday that school will be closing on Friday due to what one school official is calling “widespread flu”. This is Falkner, Walnut and Chalybeate in north, ripley, blue mountain and Pine Grove in south.

This comes on the heels of Mississippi being upgraded To widespread flu status.

Reports are that over 100 students and staff members are out at one North Tippah school.

We’re seeing geographic spread as well an increase in flu activity, and we are receiving reports of nursing home outbreaks,” said MSDH State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs.

No word yet of widespread flu activity at other schools statewide to the point of closing.
