2025-26 MAAP Performance Across Tippah County Schools

Strengths, weaknesses, and statewide standing for South Tippah and North Tippah

Prepared from the Mississippi 2026 MAAP media file

TIPPAH COUNTY MAAP PERFORMANCE | 2025-26

Executive summary

Bottom line
South Tippah showed the stronger districtwide profile, ranking 35th of 136 complete-reporting districts and reaching the 75th statewide composite percentile. North Tippah ranked 71st of 136, near the 48th percentile. At the school level, the county’s leading outcomes were concentrated in Blue Mountain English II, Walnut Grade 7 Math and Biology, Chalybeate Grade 6 ELA, and several Grade 5 results at Ripley.

The countywide picture is not one of uniform strength or uniform weakness. South Tippah’s advantage came from broad elementary and middle-grade performance combined with several high-end school results. North Tippah’s average was closer to the center of the state, but its schools produced notable peaks in later-grade mathematics, Biology, and selected ELA assessments. The largest needs were concentrated in Falkner’s elementary and middle grades, Walnut’s early mathematics, Blue Mountain Algebra I, and several Grade 8 outcomes at Ripley Middle.

Districtwide position

DistrictAverage subject percentileComposite rankOverall statewide percentile
South Tippah71.535 of 13675th
North Tippah49.671 of 13648th

District composites include the 136 Mississippi districts reporting all 17 assessments.

Countywide strengths

Blue Mountain English II ranked second statewide, the strongest single average-score rank among the listed schools.

Walnut Grade 7 Math ranked fifth statewide with 92.6 percent proficient or advanced, while Walnut Biology ranked 16th.

Chalybeate Grade 6 ELA ranked 15th statewide and anchored a K-8 composite of 25th among 64 schools reporting the same 14 tests.

Ripley Elementary and Ripley Middle both finished just inside the statewide top third of their comparable grade-span groups.

South Tippah’s districtwide Grade 5 Science, Grade 5 Math, and Grade 6 ELA results all reached at least the 84th statewide percentile.

Countywide weaknesses and priorities

Falkner was in the lower half statewide in 16 of 17 subjects. Its clearest positive exception was English II at the 62nd percentile.

Walnut’s early mathematics results were among the state’s lowest, even though its later math and Biology performance was among the county’s best.

Blue Mountain’s Algebra I result ranked 250th of 262 schools, creating a sharp contrast with its second-place English II performance.

Ripley Middle’s Grade 8 Science and Math results trailed its strong Grade 5 Math and Science performance.

Several schools showed a grade-to-grade transition problem. The data point toward continuity of instruction as a countywide improvement theme, especially from Grade 3 to Grade 4 and from Grade 5 into Grade 8.

How the comparisons were calculated

Average scale scores cannot be averaged directly across grades because each assessment uses a different scale. For composite comparisons, each subject rank was first converted to a statewide percentile, then the percentiles were averaged. A school was compared only with schools reporting the same test set. Missing tests were never scored as zero. Ripley Elementary, Ripley Middle, and Ripley High were evaluated separately. Individual subject tables use average scale-score rank, and PL4 + PL5 reports the percentage proficient or advanced.

School-by-school analysis

The following profiles pair an executive interpretation with every reported subject score, proficiency rate, testing count, and statewide rank. Official school names from the media file are preserved where useful, while Blue Mountain and Pine Grove are shortened in headings for readability.

South Tippah School District

SOUTH TIPPAH

Blue Mountain

Composite context: 12th of 33 Mississippi schools reporting the complete 17-test span.

Blue Mountain produced the county’s most exceptional single result. English II ranked second statewide, and six additional assessments placed in the statewide top 50. The pattern shows high ceilings in upper-grade literacy, Grade 4 Math, and science. The main concern is Algebra I, which ranked 250th of 262 schools. Grade 3 ELA and Math also landed in the lower half. Small testing groups make individual year-to-year movements more volatile, so the strongest interpretation is that Blue Mountain combines several elite outcomes with a few sharply defined instructional gaps.

Pine Grove

Composite context: 15th of 33 Mississippi schools reporting the complete 17-test span.

Pine Grove’s clearest advantage is consistency across the elementary and middle grades. Grade 6 ELA was its best relative performance at the 83rd statewide percentile, while Grade 8 Math, Grade 4 Math, and Grade 7 ELA also placed strongly. Proficiency was particularly solid in Grade 5 Science and Grades 6 and 8 Math. The weaker end of the profile is concentrated in high-school testing and Grade 8 ELA. English II, Algebra I, and Biology all ranked below the statewide midpoint by average score.

Ripley Elementary School

Composite context: 109th of 354 comparable elementary schools, approximately the top 31 percent statewide.

Ripley Elementary finished inside the statewide top third when only its four reported assessments were combined. Grade 3 was the clear strength, led by Grade 3 Math at 51st statewide and Grade 3 ELA at 94th. Grade 4 results were less competitive, especially Grade 4 ELA at 241st of 388 schools. The central opportunity is to carry the strong Grade 3 foundation into Grade 4 literacy and mathematics.

Methodology and source

Statewide subject ranks include school rows with a numeric average scale score and exclude district totals and the Grand Total row. Composite ranks are analytical summaries prepared for this report and are not official Mississippi Department of Education accountability rankings. Small testing groups can produce large year-to-year changes in percentages and rank, so the tables should be read as a current-year performance snapshot rather than a permanent school classification.
