Tippah County Football Playoffs End in First Round
The Tippah County football playoffs ended after just one night. Falkner, Walnut, Ripley and Benton County’s Ashland all lost their MHSAA first-round games on Friday, Nov. 6, according to final scores posted on MaxPreps. That closes the 2026 season for every area team.
Falkner was the only local team at home in the opening round. Walnut, Ripley and Ashland all had long road trips against higher-seeded opponents. None of the four games was close.
Tippah County football playoffs: Friday’s final scores
- French Camp Academy 55, Falkner 14 (Class 1A): The Eagles’ home playoff game got away from them. Falkner finishes 5-5.
- North Side 48, Walnut 6 (Class 2A): The Wildcats fell in Shelby to a North Side team that improved to 8-2. Walnut ends the year 4-7.
- Corinth 42, Ripley 0 (Class 4A): The 4A Region 1 champion Warriors shut out the Tigers. Corinth moves to 7-3, and Ripley finishes 2-9.
- West Tallahatchie 48, Ashland 6 (Class 1A): The Blue Devils’ season ended in Webb. Ashland finishes 1-10.
Falkner’s season ends at home
Falkner earned its home game by finishing second in 1A Region 2. The Eagles were the only local team with a winning record going into the playoffs. French Camp Academy came in at 3-7 as the third-place team from 1A Region 4, but it scored 55 points and won on the road.
Even with the loss, Falkner finishes at .500 and hosted a playoff game, which made for one of the better seasons in the county this fall. The Eagles scored 238 points over 10 games.
Tough draws for Walnut, Ripley and Ashland
All three road teams drew strong opponents. North Side had outscored its regular-season opponents 301-96 and held Walnut to one touchdown. Corinth had allowed just 111 points in nine games before Friday and kept Ripley off the scoreboard.
For Ripley, the loss also closes the Tigers’ last season in Class 4A. Ripley moves to Class 3A when the MHSAA’s new classifications take effect for the 2027-28 school year. Ashland’s lone win came in its final regular-season game.
What’s next
With football done, attention turns to basketball, which tipped off earlier this week. The Ripley and Falkner girls opened the season against each other on Nov. 3. MHSAA football playoffs continue next week without any Tippah or Benton County teams.
