MS Attorney General warns of scams related to storm cleanup

The Mississippi Attorney General’s Office has issued a warning about tree cutters and home repair contractors who may be scammers.

From the Attorney General:

“While there are plenty of honest business people across the state, there are some who will take advantage of people who have already lost so much in a storm. We’ve seen this happen before, where people from outside of Mississippi will come in after a storm to scam people,” General Hood warned. “Our investigators are in these affected areas providing standard form home repair contracts to make sure that people do not fall victim to these acts and know what questions to ask when repairing property.”

Some quick tips from the AG’s office when it comes to hiring reputable companies (see the full report on what to look for here):

• Verify the business you hire has insurance
• Do your research
• Shop around
