Bartolo Perez-Gomez was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic violence after an alleged assault at a Courtyard Apartments unit, the Tupelo Police Department said.

The National Weather Service in Jackson, Mississippi, said flash flooding is expected in parts of the state today and urged motorists to avoid flooded roadways.

The Picayune Driver Service Bureau said its office at 917 Goodyear Boulevard in Picayune, Mississippi, is closed today because of inclement weather. The bureau apologized and urged residents to stay safe.

Forecast rainfall totals through Saturday have been lowered as the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur take a more southeasterly track, forecasters said. Northeast Mississippi could see the highest amounts, about 1.5 inches.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation recognized Amber Godfrey, an accountant in its Budget Division in Jackson, for her work overseeing project funding, MDOT said. Godfrey has worked for the department for four years and previously worked in healthcare.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation warned that Tropical Storm Arthur could bring several inches of rain and flash flooding and urged motorists to check its traffic app and avoid flooded roads, the agency said.

The measure, championed by State Auditor Shad White, takes effect July 1, and White’s office said taxpayers bear more than $100 million a year in costs tied to illegal immigration.
