ARDOT to host public meeting on Highway 49 Mississippi River Bridge rehabilitation
The Arkansas Department of Transportation will hold an in-person open-house public meeting May 28 to gather community feedback on proposed rehabilitation plans for the Highway 49 Mississippi River Bridge, ARDOT said. The meeting is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
ARDOT said the meeting will be held in the Hendrix Fine Arts Center Community Room at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas, 1000 Campus Road, in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas.
Built in 1961, the nearly 1-mile truss bridge provides a connection between Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, and Lula, Mississippi. The rehabilitation project aims to extend the bridge’s service life and make improvements to maintain a safe, reliable and efficient crossing, ARDOT said.
ARDOT said the meeting is being held in coordination with the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. The agency said full details and related resources will be available at ardot.gov/publicmeetings beginning May 22.
