ARDOT to host May 28 meeting on Highway 49 Mississippi River Bridge rehabilitation
The Arkansas Department of Transportation will host an open house May 28 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Hendrix Fine Arts Center community room at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas, 1000 Campus Road, Helena-West Helena, the Mississippi Department of Transportation said.
Built in 1961, the nearly one-mile truss bridge provides a critical connection between Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, and Lula, Mississippi, MDOT said.
The rehabilitation project aims to extend the bridge’s service life and implement improvements to maintain a safe, reliable and efficient crossing of the Mississippi River, MDOT said.
The in-person meeting is intended to gather community feedback. ARDOT is hosting the meeting in coordination with MDOT and the Federal Highway Administration, MDOT said.
Registration and full details, including a video presentation, are available on the project’s webpage, MDOT said: https://bit.ly/4nP9HRj.
