Ashley Norman charged with assault on officers after Wallace Street arrest

Ashley Norman, 53, of Amory, was charged with simple assault on a law enforcement officer after resisting arrest during an incident July 22 on Wallace Street, police said.

Officers responded to the Wallace Street area on a report of a disorderly subject, police said. While speaking with the suspect, officers observed a meth pipe in plain view and attempted to make an arrest.

Police said the suspect began resisting and threw punches at officers. Officers deployed a Taser, but the suspect continued to resist and strike toward officers. They ultimately arrested the suspect on multiple misdemeanor charges, police said.

After further investigation, police charged Norman on July 23 with simple assault on a law enforcement officer. Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Weir set her bond at $50,000, police said. The charges will be presented to the Lee County grand jury, police said.
