Forecasters say heat will continue across the Mid-South through at least mid-September.
A forecast map showed the word ‘Above’ placed over the Mid-South, reflecting the projected pattern, forecasters said.
They said northern latitudes in Canada are rapidly losing sunlight, which is allowing colder air to build to the north.
Forecasters said a strong upper-level ridge currently over the Mid-South must break down before meaningful cold frontal passages can occur. They said there are not yet clear indications of when that breakdown will happen.
