Humidity to raise heat index late week as temperatures climb to near normal

Forecasters said temperatures will edge upward each day this week, reaching normal by Wednesday and peaking 3 to 5 degrees above normal by Friday.

They said increased humidity will be the primary driver of higher heat indices from Thursday onward.

Forecasters said a breeze on Thursday and Friday may make the heat more tolerable in some areas. They added that outflow from scattered afternoon thunderstorms could provide localized, short-lived relief.

There was little change to the remainder-of-week forecast, forecasters said.
