The updated Drought Monitor published today shows the past 30 days have been hot and dry, the National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee said.
The agency said the update reflects persistent dryness over the recent month.
Long-range U.S. and European models point to a pattern change late next week, the agency said.
The models do not indicate a drastic shift that would bring drought-busting rainfall, but they could bring high temperatures closer to normal, the agency said.
