The hottest day of the summer so far has many in the Mid-South looking toward autumn, but astronomical calculations show the Northern Hemisphere must lose sunlight first.
One month after the summer solstice, the Mid-South has lost 21 minutes of daily sunlight, the calculations show.
The region will lose an additional 53 minutes of daily sunlight between now and Aug. 21, the calculations show.
The decrease reflects Earth’s tilt away from the sun after the solstice, which shortens the length of each day, astronomical calculations show.
