National Weather Service in Memphis issues heat and storm action plan
The National Weather Service in Memphis posted an action plan advising residents to beat the heat from noon to 8 p.m. and to prepare for storms from 2 to 9 p.m., the agency said.
The service advised people to drink plenty of water and wear lightweight, light-colored clothing to stay cool, the post said. It also warned never to leave children or pets in a parked car for any amount of time and urged checks on neighbors, elderly family members and pets to ensure they have a cool place to stay.
For the afternoon commute, the agency recommended keeping phones charged and severe weather alerts turned on, the post said. It also advised having rain gear ready and moving indoors if thunder is heard.
The guidance was issued by the National Weather Service in Memphis as part of its safety messaging for the day, the agency said.
