Pastor Urges Blue Mountain Christian University Community to Repent and Seek God’s Mercy

This morning, Pastor Will Livingston of First Baptist Church in Mathiston, Mississippi, told students, faculty and staff gathered for chapel at Blue Mountain Christian University that God continually blessed his people even when they turned away.

Livingston drew on the example of the Israelites in the Old Testament, saying the nation repeatedly abandoned God to serve other gods. “Despite God’s constant provision, protection, and blessings, the Israelites repeatedly wandered from Him,” Livingston said.

He challenged the audience to see parallels between Israel’s struggles and the spiritual challenges believers face today, saying people can become distracted and let other priorities take God’s place in their lives. “In many ways, we are no different. We, too, can become distracted and allow other priorities to take God’s rightful place in our lives,” Livingston said.

While calling for self-examination, Livingston emphasized hope and restoration. He told the chapel that God’s mercy and grace offer forgiveness to those who repent and return to the Lord.
