Blue Mountain Christian University Honors Dr. Michael J. Megelsh for Academic and Spiritual Leadership
Blue Mountain Christian University has recognized Dr. Michael J. Megelsh for his achievements in scholarship and his commitment to Christian higher education. The assistant professor of history was named Faculty Member of the Year, highlighting his excellence in teaching, research, mentorship, and service, according to university officials.
Dr. Megelsh, who earned his Ph.D. from Auburn University, specializes in nineteenth-century American history, including the Civil War and Reconstruction. He has previously taught at Georgia Southern University and Auburn University. His research has gained national attention, with publications in the New England Journal of History and the Tennessee Historical Quarterly, as well as contributions to a six-volume series on Civil War military leadership.
He is the author of “Adelbert Ames, the Civil War, and the Creation of Modern America,” a critically acclaimed book on a prominent Civil War figure. LSU Press has approved his second book, tentatively titled “Mayhem: Massacres During the Civil War Era,” expected to be published in fall 2027. The upcoming work will explore violence during the Civil War and its impact on American society.
