Tupelo Police Department praised for cyber investigation work
The Tupelo Police Department commended Lieutenant Cassidy Jumper and Forensic Cyber Examiner Eric Gibens of the Criminal Investigation Division for their work on a recent case, according to a department statement.
The department received the initial report of the incident in 2024. Authorities highlighted the importance of partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies in achieving successful outcomes.
In a related case, officials announced the sentencing of two Venezuelan gang members who traveled through Mississippi reprogramming bank ATMs to dispense large sums of cash. The operation was uncovered thanks to the efforts of the Cyber Fraud Task Force and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi.
Officials said the suspects are scheduled for deportation, preventing further financial crimes and protecting residents from theft.
