Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard identified the woman found hanging behind a Jackson home on Monday night as 29-year-old Tasia Fortune, and said she was found dead.
Howard said the body was discovered in the backyard of a vacant home in the 500 block of Road of Remembrance and that the Jackson Police Department is investigating.
In a 9:05 p.m. Monday social media post, Jackson police said officers responded to the scene and initially found the body of an unidentified Black woman. Crime scene investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding her death, the department said.
Howard said the body was transported to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Police asked anyone with information to contact the Jackson Police Department at (601) 960-1800 or Crime Stoppers at (601) 355-8477.
